Mack Hansen looks dejected after Connacht's loss to Leinster

United Rugby Championship: Connacht ‘never get any calls’, says Irish winger Mack Hansen

Hansen objected to a lengthy Television Match Official (TMO) check when Connacht flyhalf Josh Ioane tackled Leinster hooker Gus McCarthy and the refereeing team ultimately decided to simply award a penalty.

By contrast, he felt there wasn’t the same scrutiny when Bundee Aki was hit by Jordie Barrett in a ruck.

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) provided the refereeing team for the inter-provincial derby, which attracted 33,963 people in Dublin. Chris Busby was the referee, assisted by Peter Martin and Stuart Gaffikin with Mark Patton as TMO.

“You can’t tell me yourselves sitting there, like, reviewing Gus McCarthy’s, how much? How much did you review that, 10, 11 times?” Hansen added.

“Bundee takes a direct hit to the head, it’s pretty obvious, he doesn’t call, he doesn’t care.

“It’s like we get that every time… and it’s starting to get really frustrating for us because people will say we’re an inconsistent team, but when you get some of the calls that we get, of course, you’re going to be.

“I’m not making excuses by any means, but when you get it week after week, I feel like it needs to be talked about… we just feel like we’re being taken out of games and we never get any calls.”
